Oils...a whole new ballgame!

OILS!  Today we prepped our 8 x 10 canvas panels and then dove right in with paint mixing and painting.  Here are the first day's pics....looking good ladies!  There is so much talent here!

A BIG thanks to Deb for the wonderful snacks...we could have fed 20 but, as it was, we just ate extras so she and Howard wouldn't have to eat it for days!!! (You are welcome!:) )

Also, thanks to Deb for the small canvases we painted on today...that size made it easier for the first time.

We are going shopping after our BFF event tomorrow for supplies so that should be a fun trip.

Watercolor Demo and Dinner...Oh My!

What fun!  Wednesday night, we met at The Artist's Gallery at The Esplanade and watched as Judy Chinsky created a beautiful painting.  It was interesting to see Judy's technique...she is certainly very skilled!  Her tropical colors are fabulous!

Dinner afterwards, with our spouses, was wonderful (we missed Tom McCullough!).  Mango's was a bit noisy so we will have to remember that for next time.

We have such a fun group...can't wait for the rest of our gang to join us!

Fun Friday!

The watercolor "dabbling" turned out to be quite fun!  The paintings are beautiful and, as we all commented at some point, it is fun to see how we each approached the same subject to get our own unique perspective...NICE JOB fellow codgers!

Ruth Lee's scones were yummy...(even if she didn't think so!!!) We thank you!  We missed you Bonnie but hope you are having fun.

Jacque Dwyan joined us to see what we were really up to before committing to join us...so she is now our newest member.  That makes 8 of us, so the group is now closed, as we just don't have creating space for more.

On to new adventures next week!

Color Mixing for Watercolors

I found these charts in one of Ruth Lee's sketch books so I thought they might be worth posting as references when you want to mix a certain color.  These also help when shopping to know the only colors you must buy...as you can mix the rest.

Fun with Watercolors!

WHAT  A GREAT GROUP!

We had a blast today, playing with Watercolors.  Ruth Lee was generous and brought two huge bags full of supplies, instruction books, paints, pallets and brushes.  Added to the ones Laura had, we were set to dive right in.

Since none of us are shy, we launched right into Water Lilies…Heck if Monet could do them why can’t we? First days work is highlighted below.  Such talent!

Thanks to Bonnie for the goodies….fruits and cookies and muffins…YUM!
Ruth Lee is set for the 19th and Deb for the 26th.

We have a new member, Luisa Stiers.  She will join us in October.  239 348-5880

We have confirmed with Judy Chinski to attend her watercolor demonstration on Wed., July 24th, 5:30-7:00 at her studio, The Artist’s Gallery at The Esplanade.
We briefly talked about finding other artists on the island who would give us a studio tour and demo.

Mini Club is formed

It's Official!  Newcomers has a new Mini Club...the Artful Codgers!

The first meeting was held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Wright Home (aka The Peace House).

The morning was a brainstorming session to talk about all things artsy.  We all come from varied experiences in the arts BUT we realized we have a strong desire to create and we are willing to teach what we know and learn what we don't. What fun!

Since the best way to get started is to "just do it", we decided to meet on Friday mornings at 9am.  The first get together will be  July 12th, at The Wright House.  At that time, we will gather all the materials we each have to assess what supplies we are short on.  A Naples shopping trip may be in our future?!?!?

We wouldn't want to faint from hunger while we create so Bonnie and Ruth Lee will bring goodies for the meetings on the 12th and 19th.  Laura will have water and tea available.

The information about the club will be posted in the July Newcomers newsletter, with a sign up sheet available with Gail at the July luncheon.  After we see how many sign up that day, then we will decide a number limit to our group....simply because it will be hard to find a creating space large enough to accommodate great numbers.
* NOTE here...the newsletter will say we are the Artful Dodgers because I MESSED UP. I will correct it before it is published again.

We have an email address:
marcoartfulcodgers@gmail.com

This blog, http://marcoartfulcodgers.blogspot.com/ will be where we can post news and pictures, with an email sent out when new items are posted.  You can also subscribe at the side of the page to be notified when there is something new.

I think that about covers the first meeting.

It is a great group and we are going to create some amazing things...I just feel it!
